Dreaming of Honeyed Apples:

A Food Writing Workshop (this Fall, held on Zoom)

Come, let us re-discover our childhood’s favourite memories of food - via creative writing.

It’s a pleasure for me to offer this six-week long Zoom workshop on our most primary source of nourishment— food. This is a poetry and memoir course on food: on all our reveries of food. Of what it means to be fed.

All the prescribed readings will be provided to you during the course of the workshop. The course will be held entirely over Zoom, over a span of 6 consecutive Saturdays. The workshop will be held on September 21, September 28, October 5, October 12, October 19 and October 26. Each Zoom session will be 2 hours and 45 minutes long. I’m running this workshop in two batches on the same day. 1st cohort: 1 pm (EST) to 3:45 pm (EST). And the 2nd cohort: 4 pm (IST) to 6:45 pm (IST). The first slot is better suited to Northern American (and UK/Europe timings). The second one would work better for Indian and Australian writers.

 What it’s all about

Where & When

The workshop will be held on Zoom for every consecutive Saturday from the September 21st, 2024 to October 26th, 2024. It’ll be held from 1 pm to 3:45 pm (EST), which is 10 am to 12:45 pm (PST) time, and 6:00 pm to 8:45 pm (UK time). On the same day, I’m also running a separate cohort at a time slot that would work for Indian and Australian writers. 4 pm (IST) to 6:45 pm (IST). You can sign up for the Fall (September-October cohort) below. I can offer you whichever time slot works better for you.

You will receive the Zoom links to the events right away (be sure to enter your email address while making the payment). You will also be added to the course’s community group the day the course begins. Readings will be sent a week in advance of the commencement of each session.

Just come as you are. Bring a notebook and a pen, or something to write on. And yes of course, some snack/fruit if you’d like. I’m really looking forward to reading your work!

FAQs

Being physically & spiritually well fed go hand in hand. In this Food Writing workshop, we will do both together.

This is a safe space where we explore the threads between Food and Grief, Food and Psycho-somatic Healing. Food & childhood nostalgia. The memory of your mother or father in the kitchen. Stories you love to return to. Or which you haven’t revisited in a while, but are waiting to re-open.

One of the things I love about writing is how it documents memories that would otherwise be lost forever. For generations ahead to read. This becomes even more significant in the context of food, & culinary traditions. The food choices we make in our homes shape so much of our domestic fabric. It’s politics.
