Dear Mother, There are Things I Haven’t Told you Yet.
A Writing Workshop (June 14th to July 12th 2025, Five Saturdays)
Early bird pricing ends in 2 days. Sign up NOW at a discounted price.
Do you feel like a part of your relationship to your mother is…unfinished?
You are not alone.
For so many of us, our mothers are our first homes.
But what if the key to unlocking your own wholeness lies in understanding the woman who shaped you?
Imagine…
Finally understanding the complex tapestry of your mother’s life – beyond the role of “mother” and into the full, messy, beautiful humanity of the woman she is.
Breaking free from the cycles of hurtful behaviour or patterns that have been passed down through generations.
Discovering your mother’s childhood – all the fears, & desires that have made her the woman she is.
Creating a sanctuary within yourself – a safe space where you can nurture your inner child.
Step into a newfound sense of self-compassion – both for your mother and yourself. We meet on June 14th, June 21st, June 28th, July 9th, July 12th. Timings: 4 pm (EST) to 6 pm (EST). That is 1 pm to 3 pm (PST). Location: Zoom. Replays available for everyone who joins.
What You’ll Experience:
-
Ever notice how you sometimes catch yourself saying or doing something exactly like your mother? It’s more than just coincidence. In the first two weeks, you’ll excavate the mannerisms (both physical & psychological) that you’ve inherited from your mother. But we won’t stop there. We’ll ask why these parts of her live on within you. Have you embraced them, or are you resisting them? Imagine finally understanding how your mother has shaped your self. And gaining the power to choose which parts of that legacy you want to carry forward.
Reading packets: poems by Billy Collins and Ocean Vuong. Excerpts from Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner, Amy Tan’s Joy Luck Club.
-
What lingers in the silence between you and your mother? What words remain unsaid? We will explore the joys & longings that have shaped your relationship to your mother. We’ll delve into her wounds, too. Imagine releasing the burden of what’s so far unspoken. Beginning to mend what has kept you apart.
Readings: Poems by Robert Hass, Ada Limón, Louise Glück, Sharon Olds. Excerpts from Crying in H Mart.
-
What if your mother isn’t 1 person, but a constellation of selves? A woman who embodies tenderness & strength, rage & joy - all at once? We’ll unpack your mother’s kaleidoscopic being. How do her different "selves" interact with your own? How do her shadows dance with yours?
Imagine finally recognizing the full spectrum of your mother's humanity. Discovering a newfound empathy - even for the parts of her you struggle to accept.
Readings: Poems by Gabriel Calvocoressi, Mary Oliver, Sylvia Plath.
-
For so long, we see our mothers through the lens of "motherhood"— the caregiver, the authority figure. But what happens when you begin to see her as a person - a woman with her own dreams?
This section is also about choosing what you want to carry forward from your mother's legacy, and what you want to leave behind. Imagine stepping into a future where you are free to create a life that is authentically yours, and empowered to build a new legacy for yourself and future generations.
Readings: Poems by Ellen Bass, Leila Chatti, Mary Oliver, Jane Kenyon, Jane Hirshfield.
This isn’t just about talking. It’s about doing.
The workshop is for you if:
You want to re-discover your relationship to your mother in a safe space.
You want to write poems (or stories) about your mother, or your relationship. These could also be letters you want (or don’t want) to send her.
You feel a sense of unresolved grief or longing in your relationship to your mom.
You want to hold a compassionate space for your mom. Uncover the circumstances that have made her the woman she is, today.
You want to break free from hurtful patterns of behavior. You’re ready to reclaim your power and create a life that feels authentic and fulfilling.
Don't spend another day carrying the weight of unresolved wounds.
Embark on a journey of transformation. Both for you & your mother.
